On the Indonesian island of Sumatra, six species of wild cats have been identified as thriving in harmony. Little is known about the population distribution and habitat preferences for each of these cats which sparked scientists to study them. Mongabay recently published an article discussing a the study published by the Journal of Zoology on five of the Sumatran cat species. The cats’ play a significant role ecologically as they influence the population and behavior of other animals. The study used “camera trapping” to document the cats without disrupting their environment too drastically. Learn more about the findings HERE.
